LUX Project

Dark theme for GNOME Desktop environment.

I have started to work on a dark but eye friendly theme. I use my computer 7/24 and my eyes are not 'trained' enough to take the big difference of contrasts on the screen.

Therefore I aim to harmonize the use (to be able to use my computer for many hours without making my eyes tired) and the look (to have something tasteful on the desktop that I look at for many hours). There are useful videos in my Video Tutorial site. The tutorials show you how to setup your desktop to get some really good effect. Also at the bottom of this site there is a link to the project's white board whereon you might can find answers to your qquestions.

For Beryl users there is corresponding Emerald theme for download by Openartist.

Please install the theme manually to /usr/share/themes until I will make a .deb file for installation.

The theme is based on the great Aurora engine that you can install by:
sudo dpkg-i /usr/share/themes/LUX/.extras/aurora_1.4_i386.deb

You can find the corresponding Nautilus background and fonts in LUX/.extras folder.

To use LUX permanently on vertical panels you need to rename vpanel.png to panel.png in ~/.themes/LUX/gtk-2.0/Panel folder.
Suggested gnome-panel size: 24 pix.

Opal-Transparent menu effect activation:
0. Pre-requesit:
sudo apt-get install compizconfig-settings-manager
Transparency:
1) Advanced Desktop Effects Settings -> General Options -> Opacity Settings
2) Window opacities -> New -> Copy & Paste into 'Opacity windows' field:
Menu | PopupMenu | DropdownMenu
Set value 80%
Blur:
1) Advanced Desktop Effects Settings -> Make sure 'Blur window' check box is ticked
2) Blur windows menu -> Copy & Paste into 'Alpha blur windows' filed:
Menu | PopupMenu | DropdownMenu | Dialog | ModalDialog
3) Make sure 'Alpha blur' check box is ticked
4) Set Blur Filter to: Gaussian

(PS. After official Firefox update the forms.css file is overwritten and you need to re-create it as per step #1)
